The End of Bats

Cupping, or removing some material from the very end of the barrel, really does make a positive difference to your performance and the overall quality of the bat. In fact, at Z Stick Baseball Company, we believe in the science so much that ALL of our bats come with a cupped end.

The main advantage of cupping is that it removes unnecessary material and weight from the very end of the bat. Removing that material does not compromise the structural integrity of the bat. A player has the advantage of using the same length bat with about a half ounce removed. It is then possible to start with a denser piece of wood. Increased density results in a bat that is stronger, more durable, and harder. The bat feels more balanced since the sweet spot on the barrel is moved toward the players’ hands. More balance allows more control and bat speed which then increases exit velocity. Z Stick follows the rules of Major League Baseball for cupped bats.

Rule 3.02 (b)
Cupped Bats; An indentation in the end of the bat up to 1¼ inches in depth is permitted and may be no wider than two inches and no less than one inch in diameter. The indentation must be curved with no foreign substance added.
